At Bicoastal Globes on Sunday, Borat Could Triumph

https://youtu.be/
That’s one of the biggest questions heading into the 78th annual awards on Sunday night. The show, postponed two months from its usual early-January perch, will have little of what makes the Globes one of the frothiest and glitziest events of the year. Due to the pandemic, there will be no parade of stars down the red carpet outside the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. Its hosts, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, will be on different sides of the country. . More than any award show, the Globes revel in being an intimate banquet of stars. When the show begins at 8 p.m. EST on NBC, with Poehler in Beverly Hills and Fey in New York’s Rainbow Room, the circumstances will test the Globes telecast like never before. . Presenters will include Awkwafina, Joaquin Phoenix, Kristen Wiig, Tiffany Haddish, Margot Robbie and Angela Bassett. At least some of them will be present at one of the two locations. Pre-show coverage is still going forward on E! beginning at 4 p.m. EST and on NBC beginning at 7 p.m. EST. The telecast will be streamed on NBC’s website with a television-provider log-in, as well as on the Roku Channel, Hulu with Live TV, YouTube TV, AT

In the bottom of the ninth, MSU’s offense came alive, as it plated six runs on four hits, including a walk-off grand slam. . “We certainly put ourselves in position to win the ball game,” head coach Travis Jewett said. Despite suffering the loss, Johnson provided a strong showing for Tulane coming out of the bullpen, as he worked the Green Wave out of a jam in the seventh inning. . “I think we had the right guy out there in the ninth,” Jewett said. “Trent Johnson was throwing the ball well, but they squared up on some of his stuff pretty well at the end of the game and they had some quality at bats in a string where they needed them the most.”. . Tulane scored its fifth run of the game in the top half of the eighth thanks to a solo home run by freshman Chase Engelhard. Engelhard also collected his fourth double of the year and drove in a pair of RBI. . “The fact that we got ourselves in position to win the game is a positive takeaway,” Jewett said. “I told the kids afterwards that it is okay to be disappointed. I think you could sense the celebration from them and the crowd and I think that means that they think we are good and I do too.”. . Redshirt junior Donovan Benoit got the start for the Green Wave and worked a season-best 4.1 innings, allowed just two earned runs and scattered three hits. . “I thought Donovan’sstart was really good and he got the game off to a good start,” Jewett said. . Sophomore Jared Hart led the way offensively for the Green Wave, as he had a game-high three hits. Junior Luis Aviles also chipped in offensively, collecting a pair of hits. In addition, sophomore Collin Burns continued to swing a hot bat for the Green Wave, as he extended his hitting streak to 10 games. . . As a team, Tulane finished with 10 hits – its second highest total on the year. . Despite the loss, Tulane can still come away with the series win. . “I think if you told our guys that we had a chance to win the series when we left New Orleans Thursday morning, I think everyone would have signed up for it,” Jewett said. “We still have a great opportunity ahead of us.”. . UP NEXT . Tulane returns to action tomorrow for the final game of its three-game series against Mississippi State. The first pitch for Sunday afternoon’s finale has been moved up one hour from its originally scheduled time and is now set for Noon.

Wiggins gives Wiseman advice to become star alongside legends

ames Wiseman has had some impressive moments early on in his rookie season, but he still has a lot to learn if he is going to reach his lofty ceiling.J. . Andrew Wiggins knows all about the expectations that come with being a high draft pick. The Warriors forward was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Wiggins was a good player during his five-plus seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves but didnt become the franchise star many pegged him as and eventually was shipped to Golden State last February. . Wiggins won the Rookie of the Year award during his inaugural campaign, something Wiseman has his eye on, and the Kansas product gave the 19-year-old center some advice on chasing the award and how to become the star hes supposed to alongside Steph Curry and Draymond Green. . Just keep playing hard, playing smart and keep wanting to get better, Wiggins said. Hes around great guys, around Steph and Draymond, around legends. So hes going to learn a lot. Its a process. Theres a lot of up and downs in that rookie season but once you find yourself and become confident the sky is going to be the limit for him. Theres so much he can do and how raw he is — the stuff he does, he doesnt even know hes doing it. So when he figures it all out and becomes who hes supposed to be, hes going to be a superstar. . Through 22 games, Wiseman has flashed the athleticism, versatility and scoring acumen that had the Warriors salivating when he fell to them at No. 2 in the draft. After playing in just three games at Memphis, Wiseman still is a work in progress and the Warriors are bringing him along at his own pace. Hes had incredible games followed by NBA learning experiences which is all part of being a rookie. . . Wiseman has a chance to make a statement in the Rookie of the Year race Friday when he faces LaMelo Ball, who the Charlotte Hornets selected one pick after Wiseman, at Chase Center. Ball and Wiseman will be forever linked as their NBA careers evolve. While Ball has silenced all his doubters right out of the gate, how Wiseman develops will determine whether or not the Warriors made the right call in passing on Ball. As for Wiggins, hes following his own advice and soaking up his time alongside Curry and Green with his eyes on a lofty goal for next season when Klay Thompson returns to the fold. . Its great playing with Steph and Dray, Wiseman said. Guys that have multiple championships, know the game of basketball, legends in the game. Just learning from them, being alongside them, battling, competing every day and thats the end result. Hopefully, we can keep pushing and make a run to the ship, especially when Klay comes back.

Lakers’ Anthony Davis makes All-Star cut, but is unlikely to play

Anthony Davis hasn’t had the season that he wanted, but in the eyes of NBA coaches, he’s still an All-Star. . The Laker forward was selected as an All-Star reserve on Tuesday night, as voted on by the league’s coaches. It’s Davis’ eighth consecutive selection to the NBA’s marquee midseason exhibition, which will be played on March 7 in Atlanta in a pared-down format that won’t involve the event’s usual flair. . Davis hit the game-winning free throw in last year’s exhibition, but he is unlikely to participate this year due to his ongoing struggles with a right calf strain that has affected his Achilles tendon. It is unclear if he will travel to Atlanta to participate in any events. Commissioner Adam Silver selects injury replacements for the game. . Davis, 27, has averaged 22.5 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3 assists and 1.8 blocked shots in 23 games this season. The Lakers aren’t expecting him to return until after the All-Star break, and he could miss games in the second half of the season as well. . He joins a list of Western Conference All-Star reserves that includes Portland’s Damian Lillard; Utah’s Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell; the Clippers’ Paul George, New Orleans’ Zion Williamson and Phoenix’s Chris Paul. Notable misses who could replace Davis include Phoenix’s Devin Booker, Utah’s Mike Conley, New Orleans’ Brandon Ingram and San Antonio’s DeMarcus DeRozan. . Brooklyn Nets guard James Harden highlighted the Eastern Conference reserves. He’s joined by Boston’s Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown; Chicago’s Zach LaVine; Philadelphia’s Ben Simmons; and Orlando’s Nikola Vucevic. Julius Randle, the Lakers’ No. 7 overall draft pick in 2014, made the All-Star roster for the first time as a New York Knick. . . LeBron James, one of the team captains pitted against Kevin Durant, theoretically will have the chance to pick his teammate again when they draft their teams from the pool of available starters and reserves on March 4 5 p.m. PT. He has chosen Davis in three previous All-Star games. Utah’s Quin Snyder is already set as the coach of Team LeBron. . Enthusiasm for the All-Star Game has waned greatly among its participants this year. James said earlier this month that he didn’t understand why an All-Star Game was being played in light of the pandemic and compressed schedule, and said he had “zero energy” for the exhibition. He referenced that response on Monday night when talking about the All-Star break. “I really don’t have too much of a comment about the All-Star break. You guys know how I feel about that.”. . LAKERS REPORTEDLY RELEASING QUINN COOK. The Athletic was first to report that the Lakers are anticipating waiving Quinn Cook, a well-liked but seldom-used guard who was a light-hearted locker room presence during the championship run. Cook, 27, has appeared in just 16 games totaling 62 minutes this season. His veteran’s minimum contract was set to become guaranteed this week.
