Fourteen area wrestlers still alive in quest for a state championship

KISSIMMEE Six Charlotte High wrestlers and all four from Manatee High are among the 14 area wrestlers in line for an FHSAA state title Saturday at Silver Spurs Arena. All 14 won their first two matches and need two more wins without a loss to claim a state title. Carmen French 106-pound weight class, Andrew Austin 126, Isaac Church 132, Lucas Willis 160, Cody Rice 170 and Nathaniel Box 285 all went 2-0 for the Tarpons in Class 2A. More. The other two are Venice Highs Bryce Taranto 120 and North Port Highs Dominic Joyce 170. Two are alive for the top spot on the podium in 1A. Lemon Bay Highs Lance Schyck 182 and Sarasota Military Academys Tyre Smith 195. A number of other area wrestlers could still win a medal but have to go through the wrestleback rounds. Action resumes at 9. 30 a. m. Saturday with the semifinals. The finals are scheduled to be wrestled on three mats at 6. 30 p. m.
