Crash on Howard Frankland Bridge throws man into Old Tampa Bay

Troopers say a car crashed into the back of a trailer, which hit a man and caused him to fall off the bridge. . ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. A car crashed into a parked trailer on the Howard Frankland Bridge, pushing it into a man standing alongside it and causing him to fall into the water below, troopers said. . . The man was standing outside his Nissan Frontier with a small trailer on the inside lane of the bridge at the time of the crash Monday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. . . Another driver came up and tried to pull over to the right to avoid hitting the Nissan, but its driver hit the trailer. Troopers say the impact caused the trailer to hit the man, tossing him over the edge and into Old Tampa Bay. . . A third car came up and hit the back of the car that hit the trailer, FHP said. . . The man who fell into the water was recovered by an agency on a watercraft, troopers said. . .
