FSG will make funds available for summer transfers, according to reports. There is a catch here, however. . . This comes from The Times. They claim that FSG are ready to make funds available for Liverpool this summer. . . Even without Champions League football, theyll put a budget on the table to get things done. They wont tighten the purse strings, nor will they back away from the drive for success. . . Their mentality is apparently that this season is an anomaly. The unique campaign, with a compact schedule and no fans, doesnt help. The injury crisis, too, is seen as a one-off. . . Thus their commitment remains and they have no plans whatsoever of slowing down. But there is a catch. . FSG entirely blame the injury crisis and weird season, it seems. They believe having Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Jordan Henderson back will fix things. . . So while funds are available, theyre not there for a mass overhaul of the playing squad. Its very much business as normal. The funds are there for signings but Liverpool dont have the option of tearing things up and trying something new. . . What RTK has to say. This is a sensible approach and a big risk at the same time. Liverpool probably dont need a mass overhaul. The returning stars probably will fix things and put everything back to normal. . . Probably. . . There is that chance they just wont and that there are underlying issues that wont go away. For instance, the mentality at the club feels horrendous right now. . . Theyve won a few games away from home but zero at Anfield. They cant even score a home goal. . . Van Dijk wont fix that on his own. Thatll take something else. Perhaps its purely a confidence thing and that a strong XI moves things back on track. . . But it really might not be. Were worried about Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, for instance. . And if FSG are wrong, these problems will carry on into next season. They want to use the same squad with a couple of new players it might be enough but it might mean another bad season. . . Back-to-back poor seasons will hurt the club significantly. It could mean years out of the Champions League. . . Were not saying FSG should plan to overhaul the squad. But the option must be there. Things are very, very bad right now and banking on a quick-fix could prove regrettable.
